Majelis Azzahir was established by Habib Ali Zainal Abidin Assegaf in 2004. Every Jum'at kliwon, the assembly holds the recitation of the Prophet's maulid after the Jum'at prayer, located at his residence on Jalan Toba No.53, Pekalongan, Central Java, which now serves as the Secretariat of Majelis Azzahir. Over time, the assembly, which was initially conducted on Friday afternoons, was changed to Friday nights on kliwon, incorporating fiqh and moral teachings as directed by Al-Habib Muhammad Luthfi bin Yahya.

In addition to the regular sessions held on Friday nights on kliwon, Majelis Azzahir also organizes routine activities and mawlid safaris in several locations, both in Pekalongan regency, around Central Java Province, and other cities.
